What our experts think
Story Time Chess provides an engaging and creative way to help children learn about the foundations and strategies of playing chess. Chess is a fantastic game for developing concentration, memory, logical thinking and strategic skills, but can be a little intimidating to learn for the first time. The included story and illustrations welcome children in and the engaging characters help them to understand how each piece can move and capture opponents.
The mini-games build on this understanding and give children the opportunity to practice the gameplay in shorter bursts, which is ideal for developing the important planning and logical thinking skills needed to make successful moves.
It is worth noting that younger children will require support and guidance from an adult or older sibling throughout, to read the story and participate in the mini-games. However, this does not deter the children’s enjoyment of the story and gameplay and makes it an ideal collaborative family activity.
