What out testers said
“I want to be Mayor Bighorn! Wa-ha-ha! I make the decisions!” – Girl aged 10
“As an adult playing, I actually like the ‘silly’ topics. We are always arguing or disagreeing about serious things, so it was nice to argue about unicorn poop.” – Caregiver
What our experts think
Hornville is an interactive card game that encourages children to engage in critical thinking and communication with their peers. This is a great way to develop important skills in debate, teamwork, negotiation and perseverance. Critical thinking is an important part of developing decision-making and logical reasoning skills as it requires children to be able to take facts and consider different viewpoints to form their own judgement.
Once they understood the rules, the children enjoyed getting into character and the opportunity to question the opposing team on the facts they had used also allowed them to build confidence. Younger children relied upon adults to largely guide play due to the level of critical thinking required, however, they enjoyed playing and as they developed their understanding of the rules, became more independent.
