What our experts think
These colourful cubes are a great way of developing fine motor abilities and engaging children’s logical thinking and exploring skills. Some of the children found it tricky to start with, but once shown by an adult, they were able to work out what to do through trial and error learning. This also teaches early cause and effect logic – recognising there is a direct consequence from a performed action, which is an important concept for STEM learning (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics). There was a real sense of achievement when the children were successful!
Our little testers liked the different colours and noises that the cubes made – this definitely added to the appeal. Younger children can use the cubes as shakers or to play with on their own – this is what some of our testers did, especially the ones who found the intended use tricky. Rotating the cube and moving the beads promotes hand-eye coordination, strengthens hand muscles and improves dexterity, which are all important skills for developing towards holding a pen or crayon and fastening buttons. In addition to their individual games the cubes can also be used together as a stacking toy or to aid with colour naming and recognition.
