What our experts think
The Butterfly Pavilion activity box is great for engaging children in hands-on learning, helping them to explore scientific concepts such as metamorphosis and the life cycle of butterflies. The larger size of the pavilion is useful for educational and group settings as it allows more children to observe the habitat at the same time.
Observing the fascinating changes sparks children’s curiosity and by asking questions and discussing their observations with their peers and adults, they develop a scientific vocabulary and are active participants in their learning. The children also enjoyed working together in groups, which allows them to develop important social skills such as communication, leadership and cooperation.
While younger children required more support to understand the process and activities and encouragement to check on the caterpillars after the first few days, older children remained engaged throughout and enjoyed using the observation journal, which promoted daily check-ins and observations. This is great for fostering an interest in science and nature and giving children ownership over a project of their own.
