What our experts think
The Bag of Buddies provide an interactive way for children to start to explain and understand emotions. This is an important part of their social and emotional development as it allows them to start identifying feelings in themselves and also recognise these feelings in others and as a result, show empathy for them.
Using the prop ‘Buddies’ also may be particularly useful for shy children who feel more comfortable expressing their feelings or thoughts through a proxy. Adult support was needed at times to use the Buddies to full capacity and get the discussion going. There was lots of descriptive language used to explain what different emotions feel like and what makes the children feel that way, which is great for developing language and vocabulary too.
