“Can I borrow some blocks please?” Boy aged 3
“We are going shopping now.” Girl aged 3
This brick and trolley set allows children to express their creativity with building blocks, providing them with a place to keep the blocks and transport them away afterwards. Construction play is important as it helps young children to begin to learn problem-solving skills and improve their hand-eye coordination when fitting different blocks together.
Our testers enjoyed making different constructions with the blocks and then packing them away into the trolley to transport around. One girl explained they were going shopping! Imaginative role play like this helps children to make sense of the world around them. They may have seen their caregiver shopping – and mimicking this teaches them about real-life scenarios. ‘Tidying away’ is also an important part of young children’s play, as it teaches them sorting and organisational skills.
