Good Toys for 9 Years and above

What to look for?

Toys play a vital role in a child’s development, especially during the ages of 9, 10, and 11 and above. These years are crucial for cognitive, emotional, and social development, and the right toys can support and enhance these areas.

One important resource for finding the right toys for children at these ages is the Good Play Guide. This guide evaluates toys based on their ability to foster creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills. It also takes into consideration a toy’s potential to promote social and emotional development, as well as physical activity.

At age 9:

Developing new understandings of the world is starting and is great for the child’s social progression. Board games are brilliant and encourage group activity, these can be enjoyed as a family and will assist in keeping close relationships and communication lines open as the child starts to approach adolescence. Technology is exciting and ever-changing, keeping their attention for longer periods of time.

At age 10:

As hormones start to kick in, children may need some quiet, alone time. Arts and crafts can allow them to express themselves and their emotions and they can take pride in the work or pieces they create. Design and technology are increasingly interesting, challenging and rewarding.

At age 11:

Creative and fine motor skills are sufficiently developed and allow added detailed creations and entertainment in terms of art. 11 year olds are still wanting to learn and explore, constantly looking for new challenges. Art and making bracelets or designing models are excellent fun and rewarding when they are capable of creating a masterpiece.

Every toy submitted to the Guide is firstly tested by the important people – children.

While the children play, they are observed by professionals who have been trained to carry out research with children in a robust, and ethically responsible way.

These apps are then put through their paces by our team of experts to ensure they meet our strict criteria in three main areas – Fun, Ease of Use and Skills Developed.
